Online networking has never been easier. Once your profile is complete, you can then join the groups that relate to your profession and perhaps join other groups with members that you'd like to reach - either for business reasons or for general interest. Then you can start posting comments, interesting information, debates, slideshares, polls or links to your blog. Answering questions from other members is an excellent way to establish yourself as an "expert" in your field.
Surveys reveal that the majority of recruiters search LinkedIn's massive database in search of people with skills that match their vacancies. With a well optimised profile, you could have recruiters knocking on your door - even if your not looking to switch job.
